Electro-Acoustic
Gravity Unplugged
As an electro-acoustic musician, Hayes augments his alto playing and sound by using an extensive effects pedal rig and looper. This enables him to create with an infinite range of sounds and textures at his fingertips. Because the textures of sounds and their dynamic ranges can illicit emotional responses, Hayes’s sounds help to determine and inspire the direction, flow and close interplay that happens between his trio Ariel De La Portilla (bass) and either Todd Turkisher or Chuck Palmer (drums)
Acoustic Jazz
Hayes’ first released on New York’s legendary Jazz label, Sunnyside Records, Lover to You, is the culmination of a decades-long partnership, where saxophone melodies intertwine seamlessly with the deep resonance of bass. This album is not just a collection of songs; it's a testament to the limitless possibilities of musical collaboration.

Five for the City
This award-winning CD was my first recording for OWL/Time Line, and first experimental recording. The two main pieces for this CD were originally written on the Synclavier. It was extremely early in music sequencing and all of the parts, rhythms and feels where metronomically perfect which kills any sense of what a human feel is. Fortunately, I was playing with these beautiful sensitive musicians who listened to what I had programmed, heard the point immediately, and simply made it their own. When it was released it received best monthly jazz release in Normandy France, November 1992.
Duo + One
I began playing and performing duos with Rashied in 1989. In 1998 we decided to formally record and document our musical collaboration and thought that including a bassist and expanding to a trio would perhaps make the music more accessible to the general music community. Don Pate who had played and recorded extensively with Rashied for years and someone I had played and worked with was the perfect choice. A couple of rehearsals later presto and we have Duo + One.
Released in 2007 on Survival Records
Because of You
With Neal Kirkwood (piano), Ed Schuller (bass), and George Schuller (drums).

My Award-Winning Jazz for Kids & Families
Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz
This award-winning children and family CD features vocalists the legendary folk singer Richie Havens, the late great Miles Griffith, Lisa Michel, and a very young up and coming Charenee Wade. And with David Berkman (piano), Jay Aderson (bass), and Tony Reedus (drums). It was produced by Hayes and executive produced by his alto sax student Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein and his wife Dorothy. Roy loved jazz and the idea of fusing it with children’s songs made total sense to him. Its success inspired Hayes to create his highly interactive jazz show / workshop /and school assembly program. Between 1998 and 2012 Hayes Greenfield’s Jazz-A-Ma-Tazz performed internationally at festivals, performing arts centers, schools, community events, libraries and museums and served over 300,000 young people ages 3 to 103.
Released on Baby Music Boom in 1998
