"For the Children," is
a 16-minute hybrid film/music video that details problems
facing American youth today -- violence, neglect, substance
abuse, teen pregnancy -- and highlights how the personal intervention
of adults and access to community programs can help. In ’97
“For the Children” was honored with a Silver Apple
Award from the National Educational Media Network.
This film was produced by Hayes Greenfield with the assistance
of young people (ages 14 to 21) who attended four successful
after school programs in NYC and contributed by writing, shooting,
acting and appearing in the film. The lyrics and song “For
the Children” were written by Hayes and performed by
vocalist Richie Havens and pianist Mark Soskin.
It is available, with Hayes’ written permission only,
for any credible not-for-profit organization working with
young people in the US or abroad.
While producing this film from 1993 to 1996, Hayes stopped
playing and performing live.
